I think, dream, strategise, write about, and am driven to understand human connectedness and interconnection - the conditions that foster it and allow us to individually and collectively thrive, and the conditions that derail it and pit us against each other.
I am intrigued by the full spectrum of this field of connectedness, for example:
How we have difficult conversations with loved ones about polarising topics
The best communication methods and principles for generating trust, coherency, creativity and innovation in groups
The harms of dehumanisation, tribalism, and “othering”
How we grow resilient and thrive both as individuals and collectively
How we listen together to an unfolding evolutionary purpose
New developments in shared consciousness and collective intelligence
What it takes to develop strong containers for trust and bonding between people
How we truly listen and take in another’s viewpoint in an open and generative way
How we understand shared unity, and the balance between individuality and collectivity both in spiritual and political terms
I have put this passion and drive to work in various capacities over several years now, including:
Completing a bachelor's degree in social science and then going on to work in a variety of community development roles
Living and working in experimental and intentional community settings, including a gift economy community and a cooperative, educational, land based intentional community
Being trained extensively by an exceptional teacher in a practice and set of principles and understandings around generating connectedness, deep listening, and collective intelligence, then exploring this work and what it was revealing with a worldwide group of practitioners
Spending many hours facilitating in-person and online sessions, groups, and workshops based on what we were learning and discovering and on my own further thinking and research into it.
Having learnt so much in these experiences, I am now motivated to continue thinking deeply about and exploring how humans can thrive and connect and understand each other at ever deeper levels, and to bring the skills and talents I have gained in this work into the places it is needed most.
I am interested in what practices and principles are being developed or discovered in this area, where we are moving forward with this as humanity, and how these methods and practices can be used to help overcome really worrying trends towards polarisation, tribalism, dehumanisation, and the vilification of those we perceive as being somehow "other" to us.
I am driven by deep curiosity and a desire to unravel these kinds of questions:
How can we learn to really "get inside" each other's experiences and understandings in order to grow true empathy?
What kind of new collective intelligence and group connectedness practices will enable us to collectively find solutions to the problems we face?
Who is doing what around the world in terms of practices, methods, principles, and explorations that are revealing new ways to communicate, to unlock and generate collective intelligence, and to enable a sense of common humanity to prevail over divisiveness and polarisation?
How much of a difference does it make when we feel truly seen, heard, and understood in our interactions with others?
“Suse is a truly remarkable facilitator in this new learning. Her ability to listen so deeply and carefully and to support each of us in our journey in this joining together is so deeply masterful and genuine. She has a clear vision of this path, and her skills and experience in this work are an important and powerful contribution to this developing way of being in the world. " Susan Hunter
